TN Schools Blocking LGBTQ Sites
ACLU Asks Tennessee Schools to Stop Banning Gay Educational Sites
I don't recall ever having personally ran into a block on LGBTQ sites while in high school, but that's because I was terrified of looking up such things at school (as it was, I was only looking at that kind of stuff late at night at home and then clearing both my browser history and cache). It doesn't surprise me, though. I always thought those filters were heavy-handed. They tend to block any site that allowed self-publishing (LJ, sites like Geocities, etc.). It really shouldn't surprise anyone that a state as conservative as this one would block LGBTQ sites. The filters supposedly have an override, but no one at my high school knew the password for it.
