Furry Music Festival
Mar. 9th, 2008 07:02 pmIn my online wanderings, I've managed to dig a little deeper into all the controversy that can come up from the types of music played at dances. I usually largely ignore the dances because I can't dance on top of generally disliking most of the music they play. I tend to be of the camp that calls all that electronically created dance music "techno".
I was also impressed with all the raw creativity on display at FWA. There seemed to be so many artists there that artists' alley was (unofficially) spilling out into main con space and turning into a real alley. I even recall seeing impromptu bands forming sporadically just outside the main con area. The musicians showing up and jamming caught my attention the most just because it was kind of unexpected.
Anyway, the whole thing has been building up to an idea. Why not have a furry music festival? It could have multiple dances running at the same time and hopefully play a little something for everyone's tastes. Get a few stages and have live performances. Instead of fursuit games, have rock offs, DJ battles, dance competitions, etc. Have areas cleared out for musicians to just gather and jam in. Every year could show a different style of music highlighted.
If I ran such an event, I'd try to have something like G3. I'd turn it into an all day event where all of the musicians involved would have an opportunity to show off their talents. Everyone who wanted a solo would get it. It'd eventually build to a total rockgasm that would hopefully leave everyone deaf and happy.
I know a music-centered furry event has basically no chance of making it, but it's still a cool idea.
