More on the Les Paul
Apr. 18th, 2008 03:06 amI think it's a little more suited to rhythm guitar playing than lead. The highs just don't come close to what I can get the Strat to do. I still need to try putting the same strings on it as on the Strat, but, for the time being, I've tossed some slightly thicker strings on it. I can definitely hear the difference in tone. These new strings seem to have fixed the issue where it was wanting to go out of tune rapidly. Also, the humbuckers get rid of the damn monitor noise, so I can read tabs and play along without having to deal with either a slight cut in sound or that buzz.
So far, I think it's a decent guitar for a beginner. The neck being thinner than the Strat annoys me, and the thing is made of plywood, so it's considerably lighter than the Strat. Whenever I get a decent electric guitar, the LP will definitely be my project guitar to mess around with and/or break. I've also got plans to rewire the Strat to be more like the Red Special.
