Guitar Stuff
May. 18th, 2009 03:17 amI'm considering picking up a couple of very small amps to drag around to cons and such so I can do the wandering minstrel thing. The Danelectro Honeytone N-10 Guitar Mini Amp and the Smokey Mini Amp are the two top choices at the moment. I wish Musician's Friend had reviews of the Rocktron Velocity Series VG05 amp, as it looks interesting. Given how cheap all of them are, I may just slowly pick up all 3. I don't expect anything great out of them, but they are a tad bit more portable than my Vox DA5. The DA5 is great, but I can't exactly play guitar, walk, and carry the thing all at the same time. I'm also considering picking up a set of small, battery-powered speakers and using those in combination with my Vox amPlug AC30 as my super-portable solution. I just like the idea of having more amps and more possibilities as far as sound goes.
As far as pedals go, the Digitech Red Special pedal handles all the effects I want except one, wah. I'm considering the Vox V847 Wah Pedal, seeing as I'm a fan of the Vox amp sound.
On the guitar front, I still want a Telecaster and another Strat-type guitar. I was thinking maybe get a Squier Telecaster, and then custom build a Strat-style guitar and set up the electronics like in the Red Special. If I do custom build it, I'll probably end up going through all sorts of weird pickup combinations just to see what I can come up with, like maybe a humbucker in the neck position instead of the usual bridge position.
I think I'm gonna try a new method for recorded rhythm guitar work either here in a bit or later on today. I think it's going to be triple-tracked, clean, simulated acoustic, and distorted via my Vox amPlug AC30. If I make another attempt at a lead guitar, I think I'm going to try one of the Bohemian Rhapsody settings on the Red Special pedal, probably the one that models the sound of the first BoRhap solo.
