So far, Windows 7 has managed to beat the release candidate for it. My screen looks sharper (or my eyes have adjusted to the slight fuzziness), and my Windows Experience Index thingy went up from a 5.0 to a 5.9. I think I can bump that up a little bit by re-running the assessment when I'm not also re-downloading Steam games, as the HDD speed was holding it back this time instead of the graphics card like in the release candidate. So far, all of my hardware just worked right out of the box, well basic functionality has, anyway. I still had to download the Nvidia drivers for my mobo and video card to get full functionality out of those, but at least it didn't feel like back in the Win9x days when you'd get a 256 color display at 640x480 with the generic video card drivers right after an install.

I picked up mine via the student sale for $30 for the upgrade version to 64 bit Pro. Curiously, the key didn't function like an upgrade key. I installed it from a full-version disc sourced from MSDN (What? The $30 upgrade was digitally distributed without a disc. I'm not about to go without a CD/DVD for my OS). I put in the key, and it didn't even prompt me to prove I have a legit copy of a previous version of Windows.

[livejournal.com profile] necrojustice may have found some super cheap Win7 Pro keys, but I'm waiting for him to test the one he bought for legitimacy before I get in on it. It'll be upgrades all around if the keys are legit.

How difficult would this be to build?

Also, as a general comment, I'm starting to want one of those kigurumi things.
