Work stuff
Jan. 20th, 2008 01:47 amSometime this week, we're getting a new manager. Wick (current manager) is going to a store closer to his house that needs a good manager, so we're getting one of the managers from another store in his place. We don't really know anything about the guy coming in to replace Wick, but we're worried that he might be a jerk or whatever. I'm worried the new guy will come in and take some of the fun out of working nights. The night crew tends to be a little more laid back and relaxed, largely because Wick isn't around after 1800 most of the time. I'm also kinda worried about this because the new guy won't have personally seen me being totally awesome at all that I have to do, so I'll sort of have to re-establish my reputation.
I've occasionally considered asking to be bumped up to cashier, but I realized something that will keep me away from that for a while. If I'm cashier, I'll be tied to the same register for most of my shift (unless I'm floater), which will bore the crap out of me. As a bagger, I get to work on most of the registers during one shift and work elsewhere, too. I think that freedom is worth not getting an extra $0.10/hour (a total of an extra $3 or so per paycheck). If I go any higher, I'm going to aim for at least front-end manager.
If I do go for front-end manager, I'm going to try to continue working primarily closing shifts. I think they'd let me. I know the managers all love it when I'm the closing bagger, and I think Terri would probably be willing to push Kathy towards continuing my tradition of closing if I were to become FEM.
